Our guides are written to help homeowners make safe, fast decisions when something goes wrong with their plumbing. They are based on established plumbing practice and the model plumbing codes used in the United States, the Uniform Plumbing Code and the International Plumbing Code.
Our plumbing guides are reviewed for technical accuracy by Ron Olsen, a master plumber certified in Washington, with more than 10 years in the trade. Even so, treat our guides as general information and rely on the licensed plumber at your home for the diagnosis and the repair.
Safety comes first
When a situation involves gas, electricity or sewage, our guides tell you to get to safety and call the right professional or utility before trying anything yourself. We describe only the checks a homeowner can reasonably do, and we say where to stop.
Where our local information comes from
City pages are built from official sources:
- Population and the median year homes were built come from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
- Water hardness and water source details come from the local water utility's own water quality reports and web pages.
- Plumbing codes, permit offices and permit rules come from each city's or county's own website.
- Licensing details come from the state or local licensing body.
When we can't confirm a figure from an official source, we leave it out instead of estimating it. Some figures come from the most recent report we could find, which may be a year or more old. Codes, permit rules and water quality change, so confirm anything that matters for your job with your city or utility. If you want the source for a specific figure on a page, email us and we'll send it.
What we don't publish
- Prices. Plumbing costs vary by city, company and job, so we explain what affects the cost and leave the quote to the plumber.
- Reviews, ratings or rankings of plumbing companies.
- Recommendations of a specific company. Our guides are written separately from the referral side of the site.
How we are paid
Same Day Plumber is a referral service. Plumbing companies and call networks pay us when we refer calls to them. See our advertiser disclosure for details.
